Once dubbed the “Bookstore Bandit” by the LAPD, author John Espinosa Nelson learned firsthand about crime when it became his ill-chosen route through the eccentricities of an otherwise loving and law-abiding family. Apprehended almost as soon as he moved on to bank robbery, John served a four-year sentence but made it a time of serious personal growth. John has since written for a number of publications, and has done local and national radio and TV segments including ABC 20/20. His forthcoming memoir, Where Excuses Go to Die (Sept. 2013), is an edgy, smart, coming-of-age story that, while mostly set in custody, also provides a real look at family, personal evolution, and what it takes to – as he puts it – “get character or become one.” John's story and blog are at www.whereexcusesgotodie.com, and his book “Where Excuses Go To Die” will be available this September.
