Thomas Cirignano owned and operated an auto repair shop on East Third Street in the heart of South Boston. He'll share how he experienced, first hand, the history making years when crime and violence ruled the streets. It was the time of court ordered desegregation of Bostons schools, via Forced Busing. It was also the time of Mobster Whitey Bulger's reign of terror. Then there was the oil embargo imposed by OPEC. The resulting gasoline shortages of the 1970s added a violent element to running a gas station in one of the most volatile sections of the inner city. He was encouraged by friends and family to document his extraordinary experiences in book form. The result was The Constant Outsider: Memoirs of a South Boston Mechanic, and 67 Cents: Creation of a Killer. Tom has been a contributing writer and served as an advisory member to The Standard-Times Newspaper Editorial Board.
